114. Get a Job before I graduate high school

Thing about a having a job that I didn't really think about was just how much of my time it would take up and how I could go in when I felt like it or if there was a family event that I couldn't go because I had to go to work. My mind was completely and totally on MONEY!!!! And that's not what   having a job should really be about, money should really be just the icing on the cake. Okay that's been said, let me begin.

My first job was at a certain fast food chain that's very popular in Japan and sells chicken. Now if that's not enough of a clue for you, well...too bad I don't want to get in trouble for saying a name.
Overall all the things you hear people say about working at fast food is true, though I was one of the lucky ones and didn't have any horrible horror stories. Probably the worst thing I have is there was one lady that grew up in the bathroom, and probably the worst someone had treated me was one time this guy came in and starting yelling a cursing at me for HIM not knowing what chicken tenders were, even though I tried to explained what they were to him though he didn't listen and continued to yell at me.

But overall the time I spent there was really good and even fun sometimes. True it being my first job it took me a few days to fully get into the swing of things. Like what to restock and where to find those items, how to pack the food, how to use the computer to ring in people's orders, memorizing the menu so I can give people the best deal possible, how to make the customers to be nice and to like me, and so on and so forth.  There was a lot of cleaning as well, I probably spent most of my time there cleaning, polishing, mopping, and wiping. I mainly enjoyed helping out the other workers there.  Like refilling the  ice for the person on drive though, or bringing one of the cooks coffee or a cookie to keep them going.

I know the quote "enjoy the small things in life." is  so very corny and stuff but I found it to be so true for that job, I had this old couple come in and the wife looked straight at me after I took her husband's order and said," I like you Missy." I don't know why but that made my day and made me so happy for the rest of the day.  This other day I had this small boy and his daddy come in and I took their order and stuff and gave the boy a free cookie (after I had the okay from his dad) and after they had got done eating and walking out the door, the boy stopped turned around with the cutest little grin on his face like he was the luckiest  kid in the world and said, "thank you for the food." though my five months of working there I hadn't had one person really say thank you. They all just do it to not be rude and because they have to. But this Little boy didn't have to nor was he told to say it. THAT made my day, along with giving me hope that this coming generation isn't so bad after all.

Only downside to the whole thing with this job is that it can be stressful and the hours were long. I worked up to 56 hours in two weeks time, which to you folks with full time jobs that's nothing. but for us high schooler's that a lot. I'm sad that Friday is my last day there. I shall really miss the people there who have all been so very kind to me. But I've got four A.P classes this year and school comes before job at this point in my life. But this job was good. It taught me what it takes to be in the food business (My major for college), and it made me really understand just how hard a job can be and to be nicer to people if they mess something up because they have to deal with a lot. But most importantly it gave me some money to put in the bank to save for traveling and other bucket list challenges.

Until next time,
So long and thanks for all the fish
